So I would suggest you to also read articles that follow. Only then you will be able to see a bigger picture. It's not only what you eat, it is also how much you eat.
Foods that we enjoy are composed of 4 basic groups of macronutrients. It is useful to understand why the body needs different macronutrients and what food consists of certain type of nutrient. To know what you eat, you need to learn some the basic knowledge of macronutrients. I'm going to roughly describe basic functions and properties of the individual nutrients. Carbohydrates are "workers" in our body. They are used for energy.
We can divide them to 2 groups:
They are found in fruits, white sugar and products made from them.
They are found in pasta, rice, tuber (potatoes), legumes, breads and lens. (Represent a major source of food average, Mediterranean and Western diet.)

They participate in many processes in the body and are, in right quantities, urgently required to be consumed by food. I would like to stress the previous statement, because I believe that there are many readers among you that believe fats are the greatest evil in their diet. Thanks God this is not so =) As well as serving your body as motor fuel, like carbohydrates. Many fats are essential, this means that the body is not able to produce them on its own (Body can produce carbohydrates on its own.), so we need to consume them, by food we eat.
We can divide them to 3 groups:
Saturated fatty acids
They are found mainly in animal fats: fatty meat, butter, cream...
Unsaturated fatty acids
They are found in vegetable oils and fish: nuts, olive oil, salmon, avocado, coconut...
They are the building blocks of your body. In special conditions they can also be used for energy. Proteins are also necessary for the normal functioning of the body. They can be found in meat, dairy products, fish, soybeans, milk whey proteins and other foods. I would like to point out, that many people in the world today thinks that they do not eat enough vitamins and minerals, and therefore buy and use expensive food supplements, "miracle cures of nature". This need is for the average man with mixed selection of foods slightly excessive. Makes sense, however, to use dietary supplements in sports, with a very high physical activity, as well as people whose situation does not allow them a diverse selection of foods.
